What we will be covering:
Each class will build on the previous class's knowledge. It is recommended that you commit to the entire series in order to best understand all of the herbs in all of the seasons. But if you weren't able to make it a class the handout material will be provided. Each class will also be a mix of theory and hands-on learning. We will all learn as we go and as nature provides us with opportunities.
Here is a little bit more of a breakdown of what each class may cover -
Foraging Herbs – aka weeds. What grows here so well that it has become a ‘weed’. We will cover the weeds that can be used for culinary, herbal and ecosystem purposes.
Growing – What plants are ideal, doable and hard but worth it and don’t bother. How to harvest, prepare and uses of the plants.
Herbal Remedies – We will be crafting salves, learning some herbal first aid, drying herbs for later use, learn some interesting topical remedies and as the plants grow we will adapt to whatever is growing this year. Everything from a healing salve, and mosquito repellant to a topical extraction for a herb-infused alcohol hand cleanser.
Fee - Investment is $250 - Early Bird save $50 until May 15th
This includes all in-person lectures, all materials for crafting your herbal remedies (4 remedies valued at over $150), a colour professionally printed booklet featuring all the plants we cover, recipes and resources that will help you in years to come.

Last year I ran my beta course and here is what the participants had to say:
In-Person Classes:
I found them more grounded and hands-on. It allowed to feel connection with the instructor, with the plants we were learning about, the soil we were touching; it also made possible to learn from other people in the group.
[I enjoyed most] the physical space where the plants are growing, see, touching and smelling, learning more about the local areas in Edmonton where plants are being grown and hearing about initiatives of different groups in Edmonton.
The hands on, multi sensory aspect of being able to experience the plants. Exploring the spaces we were in to see what was growing and when.
Herbal Crafting Classes:
That it is not as difficult as I thought to make these items at home if you are armed with the knowledge and materials needed. You opened the door for me.
I was able to learn in the comfort of my home. It was a nice step-by-step to prepare different herbs that I really appreciated.
Entire Program:
The instruction and local settings for the herbal in-person classes, the supplies provided and the opportunity to prepare and make medicinal herbal salves and other products from local plants in Edmonton was very informative and rewarding. Jennifer's instruction and passion for local foraging was exemplary and her knowledge of local Edmonton plants as well as community initiatives in support of local growing made each class unique and interesting. I highly recommend to anyone interested in learning more about what is growing in your local community and in your yard, and how you can use it for your health benefits, to taking this class. - RD
Jenny took a topic that sometimes seems mysterious and created a program that welcomes all levels of knowledge to learn and explore together. I have so much more to learn but I now feel and equipped to start exploring and making on my own.'- LH
